CLEAN-MARINE LITTER DAY IN PEARLY BEACH
POSTED 30 JANUARY 2006
WRITTEN AND ILLUSTRATED BY PEARLY BEACH ONLINE

At 09:00 on Saturday 14 January 2006, a total of 28 volunteers/members of BirdLife Walkerbay, BirdLife Overberg and the Pearly Beach Conservation Society gathered at the Castle Beach parking area to commence the Pearly Beach CleanMarine Litter Day cleanup.

The volunteers.

Headed by Anton Odendaal, the group was split into four, each one tackling a section of coastline between the car park at the Pearly Beach Resort, and Bluewater Bay. By 11:00, a total of 32 bags had been filled, and the beaches were clean. Plastic bags and bottles, and fishing line made up a large part of the rubbish collected, along with crates, tins and chip packets.

Hard at work.

After the successful cleanup, everyone was invited back to Warren Rutherford's house for a bring-and-braai. A jolly end to an unfortunately necessary task.

The Pearly Beach Conservation Society will be monitoring the beaches in future, and will report back to CleanMarine on a regular basis.
