Father's Day Lunch: Sunday 17 June 2007

The planning started the day after Mother's Day. The cooking started on Saturday afternoon. The gifts were wrapped and the tables set with a chess theme early on Sunday. Everything was ready for another delicious meal and a lovely afternoon. We just had to wait for the arrival of our guests of honour..........the Fathers.

The theme was chess and the tables set in black, white & silver

Cari Smuts welcomed the dads at the door with a cheerful Father's Day wish and a bottle of wine, compliments of the club. The surprise on their faces was a treat.

Everybody made themselves at home, quickly devoured the lovely chess-piece chocolates, specially made for the occasion by Sharon, and Marlene and Stienie started serving the starter..........mock crayfish as only Robert can prepare.

Dave thanked the staff for their hard work, said Grace and then presented the lucky draw. Ten lucky people each won a prize with their lucky numbers. Prizes were sponsored by Colleen from Avon. One table was so lucky..........they actually won 3 prizes.

Robert, Bulelwa & Mavis, cooking up a storm in the kitchen  |  Stienie, friendliest bar lady in town

The main course was served..........delicious chicken pie, slices of sirloin and roast pork served with roast potatoes, savoury rice, pumpkin fritters, sweet peas, green beans and broccoli with cheese sauce. Few people could finish their meal without overindulging, but nobody wanted to leave anything on their plates..........delicious!!

And then dessert..........chocolate pudding to die for served with ice cream and custard.

Thought for the day:
We must overcome the notion that we must be regular...It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary and leads you to the mediocre.
